Pediatric healthcare services were previously scattered among the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinic facilities. American Family Children’s Hospital was built to address the emotional and physical needs of children in one central location, while using state-of-the-art technologies. To minimize the clinical feel of the spaces and appeal to children, each floor’s furnishings, artwork, and wayfinding incorporate fun, whimsical, and colorful elements. Skydome, with its unusual circular shape, integrates with the playful theme while contributing to the ambient illumination of patient rooms and hallways. A recessed mounting style allows for unobstructed sight lines.
